Evanston
Wide sandy beaches, historic mansions on landscaped boulevards, tree-lined bicycle paths, beautiful parks and the world-renowned Northwestern University make Evanston a popular lakefront destination. Evanston is easily accessible by both Chicago's elevated train system (affectionately known as the "el") and Metra, the commuter rail system servicing the suburbs.

Once here, you're sure to appreciate all that Evanston has to offer…especially its wonderful hotel accommodations. Centered around the heart of downtown, accommodations range from luxury hotels to the old world-charm of a vintage bed and breakfast. Evanston features hundreds of rooms and special rates to accommodate all of your overnight needs.

Evanston also prides itself on its tremendous variety of dining options. You won't walk more than a few feet without spotting a restaurant! From award-winning Italian cuisine and Japanese sushi to French, Asian and regional American specialties, Evanston's restaurants promise an exciting culinary experience guaranteed to satisfy even the most sophisticated palate.

You'll be equally impressed with Evanston's unique, one-of-a-kind shopping districts. Shop till you drop as you make your way through the city's bustling downtown or make time to visit any of Evanston's signature neighborhood stores and boutiques, each with their own unique style and flare.

If you appreciate art and entertainment then Evanston is place for you! This rich cultural community is home to numerous theaters and performance halls, as well as dozens of art galleries and museums. Be sure to visit the Evanston Historical Society located in the magnificent Charles Gates Dawes House, a chateau-style mansion overlooking Lake Michigan (Dawes was the 30th Vice President of the United States and his home has since became a national historic landmark). You'll also want to see the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art, on the campus of Northwestern University, as well as the famed Mitchell Museum of the American Indian.

But if relaxing in the most beautiful of settings is more your speed, then nothing could be more delightful than a quiet stroll along Evanston's spectacular lakefront. The city's beaches offer breathtaking views of Chicago and also feature a variety of activities including swimming, sailing, windsurfing, and boating. One of seven lighthouses to hold National Landmark Status, the Grosse Point Lighthouse has stood watch over Evanston's Lake Michigan shoreline since 1873!

With over 80 parks and playgrounds, many of which are located directly on the lakefront, Evanston is recreational gem. During the spring and summer, the city hosts dozens of street fairs, festivals and exciting neighborhood events all waiting to welcome you.
